Program

General information:

World Bamboo Training Course on Propagation and Plantation was firstly held by Yunnan Bamboo Nursery in November 2012, with great support of World Bamboo Organization and Yunnan Normal University. The Course has been developed for nurseries/farms, enterprises and organizations that grow or promote growth of BAMBOO.

The 1st training course was a great success with participants from Asia, America, Africa and Europe, who recommended that the training course shall be proposed to more people in the bamboo field. Thus we are pleased to announce that the 2nd training course will be held on August 18-28, 2013. The course is consisted of Section A and Section B. Section A focuses on theoretical lecturing of propagation and plantation, with field practice in-between, as well as introduction of how to make value out of bamboo. Section B covers trips to a bamboo pulp company, bamboo plantations and bamboo botanic garden.

Yunnan Bamboo Nursery
 
YUNNAN Bamboo Nursery(known as FMXG before) located in Kunming, Yunnan province of China, engaged in bamboo propagation and plantation since the 1980s, is now the largest bamboo supplier in China, with over 300 varieties of bamboo seedlings in different sizes, and over 30 varieties of bamboo seeds each year.
 
YUNNAN Bamboo Nursery has now 8 nursery locations in different cities of Southern China, 30,000 square meters of green house space, 20 million nursery plants, 70 hectares of nursery space and 15,000 acres of high-yield demonstration bamboo forest.
 
With its rich experience in bamboo propagation and plantation, YUNNAN Bamboo Nursery provides all urban landscaping bamboos in Yunnan province, 75% in Guangxi province and 50% in the whole of China.
 
Since 2011, YUNNAN Bamboo Nursery has been more involved in international communication and exchange on bamboo, attending conferences of American Bamboo Society and World Bamboo Organization. We sincerely hope more knowledge and information will be shared on the platform of the World Bamboo Training Course on Propagation and Plantation.

Yunnan Normal University
 
Located in Kunming which is called 'City of Perennial Spring' and conceived in the Teachers College of the National Southwest Associated University which was established in 1938 from the merger of Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University, Yunnan Normal University is a provincial key university that has a long and fine tradition.

The university covers a total area of 3,330 Mu(about 543 acres). It consists of 23 schools plus two independent schools and more than 40 research institutes. It has now over 28.000 full-time students pursuing different degrees and 15,000 students in the School of Continuing Education.

The university has quite a few research centers or institutes at the national, ministerial or provincial levels. The Bamboo Research Center has been working on bamboo breeding, propagation and plantation, and protection for over 10 years. The main lecturer Professor Tan Hongchao is the chief director of the research center and chief advisor to Yunnan Bamboo Nursery. Professor Tan Hongchao was named by the people around him as "walking bamboo dictionary" due to his fascination for and knowledge on bamboo.

How to attend the course?
1. Transportation
Kunming is located in the Southwestern China, with direct international flights to major Asian cities such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Soul, Hongkong, Taipei, Kuala Lump, Singapore etc. You can also fly to Beijing, Shanghai or Guangzhou first, then further to Kunming airport. Guangzhou is the closest international airport to Kunming.
 
Most countries need to get visa for China. If you need Invitation Letter from us, please feel free to contact us.
 
We will arrange pick-up from Kunming airport to hotel on May 19, 2013. If you reach Kunming in another day, transportation information will be provided upon request.

3. Registration Fee
If payment made before June 20, it's
1450 USD for Section A;
1350 USD for Section B ; and
2800 USD for whole course;
 
If payment after July 20, it's
1550 USD for Section A;
1450 USD for Section B; and
3000 USD for whole course
 
The Registration Fee includes:
1) All transportation within China during the course;
2) All breakfast, lunch and supper From August 18 evening to August 28 evening;
3) One standard hotel room for 2 participants from August 18 evening to August 28 evening. Single room is available at extra amount of 20 USD per night.  
 
4. Payment
Payment via Paypal is preferred. Please mark your full name when you are making payment via Paypal, or send us the transaction number by email after payment.

Payment can be refunded before April 10 in case you cannot attend the course, but with a deducted amount of 100 USD per participant.
 
Special Needs: Special needs (such as visual, hearing or walking impairments) of registered participants can be reasonably accommodated if they contact the course secretariat (YUNNAN Bamboo Nursery), no later than October 1st.
